Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an identity and access management security method that requires two forms of identification to access resources and data including Motorcentral DMS. We recommend switching 2FA on for Motorcentral DMS for this reason.
Need an authenticator app?
If you don't have an authenticator app, you'll need to download one. Check out our list of recommended apps here.
Setting up 2FA (two-factor authentication) for Motorcentral
You can set up 2FA on your Motorcentral user account via our Windows Desktop version only.
To do this:
- Click on your name in the Motorcentral main screen to bring up your user settings.
- Click the Two-factor Authentication "Configure" button.
-
This will bring up the following screen. In your preferred Authenticator app, scan the QR code that is displayed in Motorcentral.
WARNING: Please ensure you only use an authenticator app to scan this code.
DO NOT USE A QR READER APP.
If you can't scan the code click the 'Enter a setup key instead' link and enter the information displayed in Motorcentral into your Authenticator app manually. - Scanning the QR code will add Motorcentral to your Authenticator app. This will now display a code for Motorcentral in your Authenticator app. Enter this into the 'One-time pass code' field in Motorcentral and click OK to complete the setup.
Congratulations, you now have 2FA (two-factor-authentication) set up on your user account.
Each time you login to your Motorcentral account, you will be required to open the authenticator app and enter the 'one-time pass code'. This enhances the security of your account.
Changing Authenticator Apps
- Once 2FA is set up you should see a "Configured" status beside the 2FA button
- When you hit the configure button you will be prompted to provide your current 2FA passcode and then you will be presented with two options:
Note: Turning off 2FA will not be allowed if your organisation has enforced 2FA authentication. - To set up a new authenticator app, press OK to continue, and you will be guided through the authenticator app setup again.
Note: this replaces previous authenticator app codes, so proceed with care.
